Life Story: About the Book
Margaret Saul Miller's “Life Story: Good Times, Bad Times and Miracles," is a heartfelt journey through the highs and lows of a remarkable woman who faced life's challenges with resilience and grace. As the youngest of nine children, Margaret's early years were marked by the simplicity and struggles of growing up in a large family. Her words capture the essence of a bygone era, where love, hard work, and faith were the cornerstones of daily life. Through her vivid recollections, readers are transported to a time when community and family were the highest priority, and every small victory was celebrated with joy.
Margaret's story is not just a personal memoir but a testament to the enduring human spirit. Her experiences of love, loss, and perseverance resonate deeply, reminding us of the universal truths that bind us all. From learning to use a computer at the age of 64 to document her life for her children and grandchildren, to facing the heart-wrenching moments of illness and recovery, Margaret's journey is a powerful reminder of the strength and courage that lies within each of us. Her ability to find hope and gratitude in the face of adversity is both inspiring and humbling.
Throughout her life, Margaret encountered numerous obstacles, including multiple brain surgeries, strokes, and the constant struggle to maintain her health. Despite these challenges, she never lost her sense of humor or her will to fight. Her ability to find joy and purpose, even in the most trying times, is a powerful reminder of the importance of hope and faith. Margaret's relationships with her family and friends played a crucial role in her journey, with the unwavering support of her husband Cyril, her children, and her close friends providing her with the strength to keep going.
The process of bringing Margaret's memories to life was a labor of love, undertaken by her son Tim Miller, who meticulously edited and organized her writings. His dedication to preserving his mother's voice and ensuring her stories were shared with future generations is evident in every chapter. The inclusion of photographs and personal anecdotes adds a rich, visual dimension to the narrative, making it a truly immersive experience for readers.
Tim's efforts have not only honored his mother's legacy but have also created a valuable historical record for the family and the wider community. Margaret's story is a celebration of the human spirit, a tribute to the power of love and family, and a reminder that even in the darkest times, there is always a glimmer of hope.
Videos
Margaret’s story is told through her own words. Her memories are vivid and clear, but considering that her writing happened over the course of at least two years, it was no surprise to find stories repeated, sometimes with new / better details.
Margaret’s son Tim took on the role of editor, sorting through it all and looking for the best versions, yet staying as much as possible with sentences and phrasing just the way Margaret wrote it.
Tim’s job was mostly to enjoy the stories while adding punctuation and inserting paragraph breaks. And photographs.
Tim discusses the process in the video clips provided below:

Artwork By Margaret Miller
Earlier in life, Margaret was fond of making doodles in the margins of notebooks, or on a scoresheet while playing card-games. When Margaret’s health caused her to be house-bound for a time, at about the age of 54, she had art instruction from her friend Geneva Miller. It was partly physical therapy and also mental therapy. She realized she had been suppressing this talent all along. She chose faster-drying acrylic paint, but was NEVER limited on subject, composition or size.
